About Dr. Khoury
Dr. Sam Khoury has worked in eye care for more than 26 years, the last eight of them in Atlantic County.
He is an independent doctor, which means the recommendation you get is his. And the experience shows up as speed: a detailed exam does not have to be a slow one, and patients are often surprised how quickly they are out the door without anything having been skipped.
His clinical focus is on catching things early: retinal changes, the beginnings of glaucoma, corneal problems, and the eye findings that turn out to be a sign of something systemic. When a problem needs a surgeon or a subspecialist, he will tell you plainly, send you to someone specific, and make sure they have what they need before you arrive.
He also runs a dedicated myopia management program for children, described below.

- Urgent eye problems Red eye, infection, something in your eye, a scratch, sudden floaters or flashes. Call — same-day slots are held.
- Glasses and lens prescriptions You are free to fill your prescription anywhere. We will give you a copy without asking why.
Myopia management for children
When a child's nearsightedness gets worse every year, that is not just an inconvenience. Higher myopia raises the lifetime risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and myopic macular degeneration. The prescription is a number, but it is also a risk factor.
There are now treatments that slow how fast myopia progresses — specialized soft contact lenses, orthokeratology, and low-dose atropine drops. They do not reverse myopia. They reduce how much further it goes.
We measure axial length — the actual front-to-back length of the eye — with a Topcon MYAH. That measurement is more sensitive than the glasses prescription alone, so it shows whether a treatment is working within months instead of years.
If your child's prescription changed noticeably at their last two exams, it is worth a conversation.

Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. New patients of all ages, including children.
Do you take my insurance?
Almost certainly. We participate with nearly all major vision and medical plans, including EyeMed, Davis Vision, Spectera, Medicare, Horizon, Aetna, Cigna, and Clover. Vision plans and medical plans cover different visits, and many patients have both. If you are not sure which applies, call and we will check before your appointment rather than after.
How long does an eye exam take?
Less time than most people expect. The exam is detailed and nothing gets skipped, but it moves — twenty-six years of doing this is mostly what that buys you. If you are trying to fit a visit into a lunch break, call ahead and we will tell you honestly what the day looks like.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Often, yes — dilation is the only way to see the full retina, and it is how detachments, diabetic changes, and tumors get caught early. Vision stays blurry up close for about four hours and you will be light-sensitive, so bring sunglasses. Most people drive themselves home comfortably, but if you are unsure, bring someone.
Can I be seen today for an eye infection or something in my eye?
Call. Same-day appointments are held for urgent problems: red eye, pain, discharge, a foreign body, a scratch, or sudden flashes and floaters. Sudden vision loss, sudden double vision, or a curtain across your vision should be treated as an emergency — call immediately or go to an emergency room.
My child is getting more nearsighted every year. Can anything slow it down?
Yes. Specialized contact lenses, orthokeratology, and low-dose atropine have all been shown to slow myopia progression in children. We measure axial length to track whether the treatment is actually working. This is a distinct service from a routine exam, and it works best started early.
Do you fit contact lenses for astigmatism or bifocals?
Yes. Toric lenses for astigmatism and multifocal lenses for reading age are routine here, as are fittings for corneas that other offices found difficult.
I have dry, gritty, burning eyes and drops are not helping. Can you do anything?
Usually. Dry eye has several distinct causes and the treatments are not interchangeable — which is why over-the-counter drops fail for a lot of people. The visit starts by identifying which type you have.
Do I have to buy my glasses here?
No. The exam and the eyewear are separate decisions. You will get a copy of your prescription at no charge and you may fill it anywhere you like, including online. That is your right under federal rules and we do not make it awkward.
